DHL eCommerce Solutions, a division of Deutsche Post DHL Group, has located its first fully-owned U.S. distribution center in Mableton, at 1370 Discovery Industrial Court. The 15,000-square foot facility has convenient access to I-285, I-20, and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
“It is an extremely proud moment for us to move to our first fully-owned U.S. building located in Atlanta,” said DHL eCommerce Solutions Americas CEO Lee Spratt. “Our expansion plans have been in the works for some time, but with this year’s consistent surge in e-commerce volumes, we understood the urgency of finalizing our plans to have a permanent home in the Atlanta area and additional space in strategic metropolitan U.S. locations.”
“This is excellent news for both the company and Cobb,” Cobb Commission Chairman Mike Boyce said. “DHL receives the benefits of our infrastructure and quality of life, while county residents receive another opportunity to work at a high-quality business as it looks to expand.”
The Mableton facility is part of an approximately $30 million investment to expand and modernize DHL eCommerce Solutions’ operation in the United States. The investment includes adding temporary distribution center space in Chicago, Los Angeles, and Avenel, N.J., and hiring 900 new distribution center workers.
“We’re excited to welcome another global brand to our business community,” says Dana Johnson, COO of the Cobb Chamber and Executive Director of SelectCobb. “With the growing demand of e-commerce shipping solutions, DHL will benefit from their investment in South Cobb, through our skilled workforce and location advantages.”
DHL eCommerce Solutions plans to invest approximately $30 million in 2020 to expand and modernize its operation in the United States. The Mableton distribution center will process domestic lightweight parcels. In addition to the new building, the initial investment will include a sorting machine that can process 20,000-30,000 parcels per hour.
“Cobb continues to attract quality employers and there is no question that employers are attracted to this area due to its unique accessibility to two interstates, two airports and Norfolk Southern Railway,” said Lisa Cupid, District 4 Cobb County Commissioner. “I look forward to DHL maintaining its commitment to sustainability and to community as a global logistics leader.”
DHL eCommerce Solutions currently has 19 distribution centers and three corporate offices in the United States and Canada with approximately 3,000 employees. The division is focused on servicing B2C online merchants, shipping lightweight packets and parcels domestically and internationally.
