Target Industries

Cobb’s community of businesses is diverse, but the county does have strong clusters of specific industries. Economic drivers like a trained and available workforce and a collaborative atmosphere between leaders in the industry, academic institutions, and government allow these target industries to grow and experience success.

Advanced Manufacturing

Georgia is a national leader in the advanced manufacturing industry. Manufacturers in Cobb, including Arylessence, thyssenkrupp, Tip Top Poultry, and YKK, produce goods that are traded all over the globe.

With a central location and an interstate, air, and rail infrastructure that moves product to 80% of the nation’s population within two days, Cobb County is an ideal location for this industry sector. Another Cobb advantage for advanced manufacturers – Cobb’s strong pipeline of talent.

Aerospace & Defense

Cobb is home to companies that produce aerospace and national defense-related products and parts, as well as a variety of manufacturing sectors that provide unfinished inputs or supply finished components to the core aerospace products sectors.

Cobb County is the ideal location for first and second tier suppliers that want to reduce transportation costs, leverage a common labor pool, and benefit from the research and development synergies and expertise of their primary customers like Lockheed Martin and Dobbins Joint Air Reserve Base.

Construction & Skilled Trade

Construction and Skilled Trades is one of the top two sectors in Cobb by employment numbers. Construction laborers are in high demand, as seen in their position as number one occupation in both current and desired employees in Construction and Skilled Trades. The demand for workers with automotive service and repair skills is strong. Nine out of the top 10 occupations by job posting require less than a four-year degree, highlighting the need for a labor force with specialized training rather than educational attainment.

BioTech/Healthcare

With metro Atlanta home to nationally and globally recognized health organizations, such as the Centers for Disease Control, the American Cancer Society, and the Arthritis Foundation, Cobb County’s healthcare and biotech industry sector has grown steadily.

Bioscience and biotech encompasses the full spectrum of drug discovery and pharmaceutical manufacturing, as well as biological research and development for a variety of medical, energy, and other applications. Cobb County distinguishes itself with a variety of assets to support continued development of the industry, including several universities with degree programs in bioscience and related fields and joint bioengineering programs.

Corporate Headquarters

Year after year, Cobb County welcomes businesses moving their headquarters, North American, or regional offices to our vibrant business community. With world-class school systems and a healthy economy, a consistent infusion of talent, and a pro-business environment, Cobb is home to some of America’s best known brands.

Most recently, Cobb has welcomed sales software giants Skynamo, international business consultants Penon Partners, and intelligent automation distributors KNAPP. And, biopharmaceutical company UCB, global pack ‘n’ ship leaders DHL eCommerce Solutions, and pizza pros Papa Johns have announced expansions or headquarters here too.

Technology

Information Technology (IT) and software development is one of the most prolific areas in any metropolitan area. Cobb County’s location adjacent to neighboring North Fulton County has created spillover effects, and the two areas are a part of a larger Information Technology and Software cluster that spans across the northern part of the “perimeter” of Metro Atlanta. This results in tremendous networks that have been created between firms, high-quality and high-capacity educational and research institutions, and an outstanding broadband infrastructure.

Supply Chain & Logistics

The Wholesale Trade sector captures establishments that are critical to the flow of goods within our economy. Wholesalers also often provide a variety of other valuable services to manufacturers, including marketing, new business development, sales support, logistics/supply-chain coordination, and customer and technical support to the purchasers of their goods. Cobb County is home to a strong concentration of durable goods wholesalers, attracted to the area because of its proximity to an international airport with air freight capacity, strong interstate networks, proximity to high-volume ports, and low cost of land.

Cobb currently has a solid inventory of existing office-warehouse spaces ranging from extremely large, with more than 100,000 square feet, to smaller offices and warehouses.

Tourism

Travel and Tourism is made up of accommodations, attractions and entertainment, restaurants, and retail—as well as supporting occupations such as coaches, entertainers, and retail salespeople. Georgia welcomed more than 160 million visitors in 2021, resulting in $34.4 billion in direct visitor spending. Cobb Travel and Tourism leads strategic marketing of travel and tourism opportunities on behalf of the entire county, complemented by partners across the county, region, and state.

Many factors make Cobb a major player in Georgia’s Travel and Tourism industry, with convenient interstate access, lots of free parking, and excellent parks and recreation facilities, including professional sports teams and facilities.
